The pitched-roof ACME in the Sunnybrae development in the Yardville section of Hamilton Township was one of the latest pitched-roof stores, opening around 1970. The 19,000 square foot store lasted until 2001, when it was replaced by the existing Yardville ACME just a quarter of a mile southeast. Acme Style has more details on the store and its replacement here. Tomorrow, we move on to Bordentown for a look at the ShopRite over on The Market Report!

  1. Though I couldn't ascertain an exact opening date for this Acme, it appears that it opened in April or May of 1971. Here's a fascinating extract from an article on Page 24 of the 4/6/71 edition of The Philadephia Inquirer (titled "Acme Markets Pushes Expansion"):

"Acme Markets, Inc., said its construction program is in full swing with four supermarkets opened since Jan. 1 and another five due in April and May. Openings include Acme markets in Uniontown and Canton, Pa., and Super Savers in Wayne, N.J., and Ogletown, Del. Slated in the next two months are Acmes in Connellsville and Penn Hills, Pa.; Cumberland, Md., and Pennsauken and Yardville, N.J."
