It seems that the right half (about 17,000 square feet) of this Marshalls was originally a Grand Union. Now it looks like there's nothing really special about this former Grand Union, which shares a mall with today's other stores, the former ACME and current Bhavani Foods in the Sayre Woods Shopping Center. But if we look carefully, we can see that the metal tower sign to the far right is nearly identical to the one we saw in the historical photo of the Union location. I grew up in the area, and was very interested in how things were before my time. I do know Grand Union was open in Sayre Woods/Gateway from about 1954 to 1976. I'm surprised they had to close, but then again I'm sure they had competition with the Pathmark which was, at the time directly across Rt 9 from them.
